Linux Systems Engineer - Big Data

We are in search of a technologist and problem solver that can wear many hats in our growing organization. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is good at working both independently and with others knowing when to figure things out on their own and when to ask questions and seek assistance.  Strong communication skills are a must, both written and verbal, along with the ability to gather information from a variety of sources. 

The role involves providing monitoring, support and system administration working closely with a Senior Systems Infrastructure Engineer across a diverse platform of systems and requires a strong understanding of Linux Ubuntu & Centos operations and management.

This person will support a variety of areas and participate in projects associated with infrastructure management, system admin, release engineering, application deployment, system monitoring, and database management.  You should be excited by the prospect of creating tools to help automate daily or routine tasks.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in projects to design and implement new technology solutions, meet specific business needs, solve problems, or improve offerings
  • Provide first level systems monitoring and support for live production environment including FTP & SFTP servers, Webservers (nginx, apache, nodejs), Samba & NFS fileservers, DNS, DHCP and postfix mail systems
  • Participate in capacity planning of the infrastructure and performance tuning of the network stacks
  • Grafana & Munin performance monitoring
  • Support application deployments, building new systems and upgrading and patching existing ones
  • Ensure integrity of onsite and offsite backup systems
  • Provide monitoring and diagnostic support for Windows Servers as needed, including some first level user assistance and troubleshooting
  • Participate in building of tools and processes to support the infrastructure
  • Participate in limited 24/7 on-call responsibilities to respond to emergency situations and perform scheduled maintenance
  • Contribute to the creation of system support documents

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience in a professional environment
  • Linux administration and operations experience, preferably with Ubuntu and/or RedHat/CentOS, with a focus on full stack web implementations including command-line management and large-scale system management with Ansible, including creation of custom roles and rollout processes
  • Talent at diagnosing and remedying serious issues promptly and effectively
  • Ability to maintain strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in a highly visible fast paced environment
  • Ability to multitask and keep track of various deliverables and their respective deadlines
  • A thorough understanding of Linux performance tuning with coding experience such as Bash, Perl, or Python scripting
  • Big plus for any experience with Hadoop Administration & management of multiple Hadoop clusters including Hortonworks Hadoop stack (Hive, Hbase, YARN, HDFS Ambari)
  • Ideal to have good understanding of database technologies: MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server/MSSQL

 

This position works out of our headquarters in the Sandy Springs area of Atlanta.  This is a full time salaried position with full health benefits, 401K, paid vacation and an annual bonus.
